(COLUMBUS) - Two Columbus residents facing charges related to the death of toddler have had their trials delayed.
The Bartholomew County Prosecutor's Office says that 31-year-old Thomas W. Gorski and 22-year-old Rachel McCue had something to do with the Nov. 25 death of 19-month-old Evan Jack McCue. Rachel McCue was the boy's mother and Gorski was her live-in boyfriend.
The delays were ordered by Bartholomew County Circuit Court Judge Stephen Heimann after both defense attorneys told him that they needed additional time to prepare for a trial. Gorski's original trial date was set for Oct. 22. It has been rescheduled for Jan. 7. McCue's trial was delayed until Jan. 21.
According to police, the McCue called 911 to report that her son, Evan McCue, was unresponsive and lifeless. Emergency crews rushed to the home in the 2800 block of Lamplight Drive. Efforts to revive the baby were unsuccessful.
The child was pronounced dead at Columbus Regional Hospital. The autopsy found that Evan died from a head injury.
According to police, Gorski who is not Evan's father, lived at the home with the boy's mother.
Over 25 people were interviewed and detectives had obtained 12 search warrants as part of the investigation.
