(UNDATED) - More than 45 students from across Indiana will travel to southern Indiana this weekend to explore Underground Railroad sites as part of the National Preservation Conference in Indianapolis later this month.
Indiana Landmarks says the three-day, two-night excursion ending Sunday will take students and educators to Jeffersonville, New Albany and Madison where they will meet with local Underground Railroad and museum experts.
It's called the Indiana Preservation Youth Summit. Indiana Landmarks says a team of the students will share their perspectives on how to interest youth in history and preservation during an October 31 session at the conference in Indianapolis.
The junior and senior high students and eight educators received scholarships made possible through the National Park Service, Indiana Landmarks and other state and national groups.
