Last updated on Thursday, October 24, 2013

(GRANT COUNTY) - Murder charges have been filed in the two-year-old case of Dorothy Heard.

Heard's nephew, Donald Burns, was charged with felony murder in Grant Circuit Court last week.

Dorothy Heard went missing in June 2011. Her body was found near the Mississinewa Battlefield in Grant County in 2012. The remains were discovered in February on CR 600 North in Grant County, near the Wabash County line on February 9.

Heard is the mother of five, grandmother to 15 grandchildren, and great-grandmother to 22 children. She disappeared the same day one of her grandchildren, 10-year-old Serena Weicht, was missing for several hours.

Weicht was later found safe at a Westfield restaurant.

Heard's nephew, Donald Burns, was arrested a week after her disappearance as a person of interest in the case.
