Man Convicted For Parent's Murders

Last updated on Saturday, October 12, 2013

(WINCHESTER) - An eastern Indiana man has been convicted on murder charges that he gave his mother a deadly medication overdose and fatally shot his father.

A Randolph County jury deliberated about an hour Thursday before returning the guilty verdicts against 37-year-old Brian Hartman. He was charged in the 2010 deaths of his 53-year-old father, also named Brian Hartman, and 52-year-old mother Cheri Hartman at their rural home outside Winchester.

The Star Press reports testimony showed that the elder Hartman's body was stuffed into a plastic container where it was found 11 days later. The prosecutor said Hartman had his mother's body cremated before authorities knew her husband had been killed.

Hartman didn't testify, but his attorney argued Hartman routinely stole his mother's pain medication and wouldn't kill his drug source.
