Johnson County Man Arrested In Thefts

Last updated on Friday, October 25, 2013

(JOHNSON CO.) - A Johnson County man was arrested Tuesday in connection with several thefts and burglaries.

The sheriff says 27-year-old Christopher Mars had controlled substances (Suboxone and possibly heroin) and stolen items in his possession.

According to the sheriff's office, Mars had an iPod that was stolen from a home on County Road 600 North, as well as a chainsaw stolen from another property along the same road. Those items were reported stolen overnight on Oct. 20th.

Investigators were looking into Mars' involvement in the string of thefts. Whiteland Police reported checking out a suspicious vehicle in a church parking lot. The car was registered to the mother of Christopher Mars, and it was spotted the same night that the thefts occurred just down the road.

Mars denied being involved in the thefts, but while at his home, investigators noticed a violin and violin case. Mars told police he got the violin from a friend.

The next day, someone reported a violin stolen out of a barn, along with other items, in the same area as the other thefts and burglaries.

Police got a warrant for Mars' arrest and found narcotics as well as stolen items in his possession during the arrest. Those items were identified by the property owners.

The sheriff's office says Mars is not cooperating. Anyone with information on Christopher Mars or any associates is asked to call the Johnson County Sheriff's Office at 317-346-4604.
