(INDIANAPOLIS) - A top Democrat in the Indiana Legislature says he thinks a key investigation of former state schools Superintendent Tony Bennett is taking too long.

House Democratic Leader Scott Pelath said Tuesday he's concerned state Inspector General David Thomas' review has now taken twice as long as a legislative review released in September. Thomas has confirmed he is investigating Bennett but declined to discuss details.

Bennett resigned as Florida's schools chief after The Associated Press published emails showing he altered Indiana's school grading system to benefit a campaign donor's charter school. A month later, the AP reported on Republican Party fundraising lists for Bennett discovered on state computers.

Bennett has maintained he did nothing wrong in changing the grade for Christel House or in having fundraising lists on state equipment.
