Gambling Proposal For Indy Airport Might Not Fly

Last updated on Monday, October 21, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Proponents of an idea to bring wireless gambling to Indianapolis International Airport say the added revenue could help increase the number of nonstop flights to the city.

But airport officials and industry experts say the idea isn't likely to take off.

The Indianapolis Business Journal reports gambling industry attorneys Phil Sicuso and Joe Champion floated the idea in an article for their firm's newsletter. They suggest creating lounges in which travelers over age 21 could play games on handheld devices connected to a central server.

Indianapolis Airport Authority President Mike Wells said the idea is "clever" but he doesn't think it will fly.

State lawmakers have been reluctant to expand gambling despite increasing competition from casinos in neighboring states.
