(EVANSVILLE) - We've all lost something that is important to us like our keys or wallet, and most times those items are long gone.

WFIE reports, however, there are times we're surprised.

That happened to an Evansville man who says something important he lost more than five months again suddenly appeared at his doorstep.

A man's wallet is like his lifeline. Between an I.D., credit cards, and of course cash, all inside it. If you've ever lost one before, you know that feeling. You have to cancel your cards, wait in line at the DMV, and you never think you'll see it again, unless of course, you've got someone looking out for you.

Logan Dame hasn't seen his ratty old wallet since June when he was on his way home from a concert in Colorado.

"I guess I took the wallet out and put it on top of the car and we drove off and so did the wallet," said Logan.

A package arrived this week addressed to Logan.

"I had no clue cause I hadn't ordered anything," said Logan. "I had no clue what it could have been."

Inside, Logan found a note: "We found your wallet on the side of the road on mile marker 65 along I-64 south at 6:20 p.m. on 9/8/2013 and we wanted to return it to its rightful owner."

"Under the note was a plastic bag with my wallet in it, still wet and had plants growing out of it, stuff it had been sitting on the side of the road so long," said Logan.

Inside, Logan found his I.D., credit cards, $62 in cash and some gift cards. Nothing had been touched or taken.

Who was the mystery sender?

She lives in Paducah, Kentucky and tells us when she and her husband came across the wallet, they knew exactly what to do.

"It didn't even cross out mind to think twice about it," said Cortnee Peters.

She says she hopes this serves as a reminder to people; that being honest is easy and kindness could just come back around one day.

"If you were in their shoes, how would you feel if someone didn't return it to you? So, that's just kind of the golden rule," said Cortnee. "Do onto others as you want to be treated. That's just how I live."
