Driver Hurt When Bus Overturns On I-65

Last updated on Wednesday, October 16, 2013

(LOWELL) - State police say a bus without any passengers on board flipped onto its side, closing part of Interstate 65 in northwestern Indiana for more than two hours.

The bus owned by North American Charter Lines of Bolingbrook, Ill., was northbound on I-65 near the Lake County town of Lowell when it went into the median about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. State police Sgt. Ann Wojas says the bus driven by 41-year-old Dwane Jackson of Chicago rolled onto its side and came to a stop against a cable barrier.

Emergency workers had to free Jackson from the bus and he was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening head and shoulder injuries.

Jackson told police he probably fell asleep right before the crash about 20 miles south of Gary.
