(MUNCIE) - Ball State University's president says it is reviewing a course that a group advocating the teaching of intelligent design maintains is promoting atheism.

Ball State President Jo Ann Gora says in a letter to the Seattle-based Discovery Institute that the review aims to make sure the course content meets high academic standards.

The think tank complained about the "Dangerous Ideas" honors course last month after Gora responded to an atheist organization's objection to another Ball State class by saying the teaching of intelligent design and creationism isn't appropriate for science courses.

Discovery Institute vice president John West tells The Star Press he believes Ball State is stonewalling and that he's concerned about university applying its standards equally to all faculty members.
