Water Pipe Burst Closes Down Clay Community School District

Last updated on Monday, September 2, 2013

(BRAZIL) - Clay Community Schools got an unexpected four-day weekend, after a water pipe burst in Forest Park Elementary School early Friday morning.

While on their routine rounds through the city, officers with the Brazil Police Department noticed a steady flow of water coming out of the southwest side of the school.

CCS officials were on the scene by approximately 3:30 a.m., and found close to 1.5 inches of water on the floor. Maintenance crews immediately began extracting the water and by 8:30 a.m., little was left inside the building.

Due to Indiana State Statutes, Superintendent Kimberly Tucker had to cancel school for the entire corporation. Officials believe that the school will be ready by Tuesday, and expect to make up the extra day in April.
