(INDIANAPOLIS) - Emergency responders in central Indiana have two training exercises planned for Tuesday.

The exercises were planned well in advance of Monday's attack at a Washington, DC Navy yard that left 13 dead and over a dozen wounded. However, in light of that incident, central Indiana residents should be aware that the training exercises are going on and should not be alarmed.

A live fire training exercise will be held at the Indianapolis International Airport from 10:30 am through noon. The training will take place on a decommissioned runway and will use a simulator with controlled propane fires, part of ongoing FAA regulatory compliance.

Also, the Marion County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) will conduct a full-scale hazardous material response exercise at Brenntag Mid-South's Post Road facility as part of the annual requirements of the Indiana Emergency Response Commission.

The following organizations will participate in the exercise: Indianapolis Fire Department, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Indianapolis Division of Homeland Security, Marion County Public Health Department, City of Indianapolis Department of Public Works, Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, Community East Hospital, MESH, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Citizens Energy Group, and Brenntag Mid-South, Inc.

That will be held from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm on Tuesday in the 3100 block of N. Post Road.
