Southern Indiana Man Wins Fourth World Championship In Arm Wrestling

Last updated on Thursday, September 26, 2013

(FLOYDS KNOBS) - A southern Indiana man has captured his fourth world championship in arm wrestling.

Mike West of Floyds Knobs nabbed the title Sept. 8 in Poland by defeating a Swiss opponent.

The 52-year-old West says he's motivated by the challenge of getting to the top and staying there.

West defeated a Swiss arm wrestler who'd knocked him out of the 2012 world championships to claim the title this year in the right-handed, 90-kilogram master's bracket championship.

He says he'd love to see the U.S. find sponsors and boost fan support for arm wrestling. The sport is so popular in countries like Turkey that it's featured in weekly television shows.
