(UNDATED) - A report from the National Consumers League says Walgreens charges its consumers more than other chain drugstores like CVS and Rite Aid.
In partnership with Change to Win Retail Initiatives, the NCL surveyed 485 Walgreens, CVS and Rite Aid locations in New York City, Los Angeles, Orange County and Dallas-Fort Worth to research how consistent in-store pricing is within each chain.
In addition to finding that Walgreens customers sometimes overpay as much as 55 percent, the data also shows that out of the three drugstore chains, Walgreens had the biggest price differences between its stores.
According to the report, Walgreens stores in a single market were up to five times more likely than CVS or Rite Aid to charge different prices for the same item, ABC15 reported.
"Our prices reflect the costs of doing business in the neighborhoods we serve as well as any nearby retail competition," Walgreens spokesman Jim Graham said in a statement on BizJournals.com.
