Popular Artesian Flowing Well Closed After Testing Positive For E. Coli

Last updated on Wednesday, September 11, 2013

(CARMEL) - A popular artesian flowing well at an Indy suburb’s park has been closed after officials say they found positive levels of E. coli in the water.

The Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation Department said it closed the well at Flowing Well Park (located on 116th Street just east of Gray Road) on Monday after their monthly test on the water came back positive for E. coli and other bacteria.

Officials tell RTV6 the water was re-tested sometime Monday afternoon and they are awaiting results of the re-test Tuesday.

Residents usually head to the 18-acre park in Carmel to walk on nature trails or fill up jugs with water from the artesian flowing well at the beginning of the park.

We'll let you know when it's safe to collect water from the well at Flowing Well Park once again.
