(CAMDEN, NJ) - A mother and her boyfriend in New Jersey are facing serious charges of child abuse.
The 31-year-old mom and her 29-year-old boyfriend are accused of chaining her 10-year-old son to a radiator by his ankle for the past two weeks.
Investigators said the abuse was discovered when the boy was seen running from the home Monday trying to escape and a neighbor grabbed him.
"The child appeared to be malnourished as well. It did not appear he was getting all the food and the supplements that he should have been receiving," Chief Scott Thomson said.
Police said they also found evidence of zip ties used to bind the boy's hands together.
Officers said the boy lived in the home along with five other siblings.
The mother and boyfriend are in jail charged with endangering the welfare of a child and criminal restraint.
State authorities are now caring for the children.
