Peru Man Arrested For Cutting Down Neighbor's Flag And Burning It

Last updated on Wednesday, September 11, 2013

(PERU) - A 21-year-old Peru man was arrested after police say he drunkenly cut his neighbor’s flag down from a pole and burned it in his backyard.

Brett Bishop told police he got drunk and went into his neighbor's yard with a BB gun to get his dog. He told police officials that he stole frozen pork from the neighbor's freezer and slashed the tires of a vehicle in the garage.

Bishop told officials he remembered cutting down the flag, but didn't remember burning it. He went on to say he remembered burning his hand while trying to light something, but couldn't remember what that something was.

The Pharos Tribune say part of the flag was found still attached to the pole, but the majority of it was missing. The burned pieces were later found in Bishop's backyard.

Bishop was arrested for burglary, theft, criminal mischief and flag desecration.

Bishop told authorities he was concerned about his alcohol use because he "was doing well in nursing school and was up for a promotion at his job."
