Medical Errors Report Shows Serious Bed Sores Numbers Fall

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The 2012 Medical Errors Report from the Indiana State Department of Health shows the number of serious bed sores reported in the state’s hospitals and clinics fell to 30 last year from 41 the year before.

Stage-three or -four bed sores, or pressure ulcers, have been the most reported incident in six of the seven years the report has been compiled and average about 30 incidents per year.

The report says a total of 100 medical errors were reported in 2012, the same number as 2011.

The other most common medical errors last year were 19 incidents of a foreign object left in patients after surgery, 15 surgeries performed on the wrong body part, and 14 falls resulting in deaths or serious disabilities.
