Jeep Plunges Into Huge Pothole In Indianapolis

Last updated on Tuesday, September 10, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A road collapsed in Indianapolis Monday morning, leaving a jeep Cherokee stuck in a giant pothole.

It happened on English Avenue, between Shortridge Road and Franklin Road on the east side of the city.

James Moore's jeep fell into the road after he says a car in front of him went over the same area moments before. He followed the path and felt his car start to tip. Moore was not seriously hurt, but he wants to know what the city is going to do to fix this roadway.

"I had my seat belt on luckily that kept me in my seat. My dog was in the passenger seat. I hurt. My neck hurts, lower back hurts and I am just shaken up real bad," he said.

A relative took James Moore to the hospital to be checked out. Another relative was able to drive the Jeep from the scene once it was pulled out of the pothole.

English Avenue is closed in both directions between Franklin Road and Woods Crossing Drive due to the 24-inch water main break. Crews estimate the main to be repaired in the next 6 and 8 hours.

Due to this break, sixty-five homes are without water.

The majority of main breaks are caused by aging infrastructure that has been neglected for decades. This particular main was 42 years old.
