(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis Metro Police have identified the body of a man found in the White River on Monday.

He was identified as 35-year-old Sang Hup of Burma. The cause and manner of death are still pending.

Hup's body was recovered from the White River south of Southport Road.

Police had been searching the area for the man who relatives say was fishing in the White River with friends on Saturday night.

The man entered the water to attempt to swim across. Witnesses say he began to struggle, and tried to hold on to a log in the water before he went under water.

Family and friends reported the incident to police on Saturday night.

Family and friends had been searching from the banks Monday when a body was located Monday afternoon.
