(NOBLESVILLE) - A Noblesville family is looking for their missing snake.
The Colombian red tail boa constrictor is 8 feet long. It has been missing since Sept. 2 from the area of the 19000 block of Wagon Trail Drive.
Flyers were distributed by the family in the neighborhood. The fliers include a picture, and a warning that the snake "might be aggressive."
Tom Rogers, Coordinator of Hamilton County Animal Control, says he has been working with Noblesville officers on the case. He says the snake will be found "when it wants to be found." He says despite the size, this kind of snake can be "quite elusive." A search by officers and the family has so far not been fruitful.
He says he's found many people are scared to death of snakes, while 25 may be living in their backyard. He said humans probably shouldn't be too concerned about an encounter with the snake.
He said the biggest threat from this snake is probably to small animals. It might attack a small dog or cat if it felt threatened. Rogers says the largest animal the snake could eat would be a small rabbit.
If someone sees the snake, Rogers says they should call central dispatch at 773-1282.
