Last updated on Friday, August 23, 2013

(FISHERS) - Fishers Police arrested a man and a woman early Thursday morning after an off-duty officer spotted the man trying to break into his unmarked police vehicle.

It happened at the Woods of Britton Apartment Complex near 141st Street and Old Oak Drive at around 5:20 am.

The Fishers Police officer noticed a Honda passenger car in front of his apartment. He saw a man get out of the Honda and try to break into his vehicle. The man was unsuccessful and returned to the Honda.

The officer followed the suspect vehicle and notified on-duty officers. A Fishers K-9 unit stopped the suspect vehicle, but police say the man, later identified as 19-year-old Shaquille O. Davis of Indianapolis, ran on foot. He was quickly caught by the K-9. The woman, identified as 22-year-old Clarese Via of Westfield, remained inside the vehicle. She was also taken into custody.

Davis was taken to the hospital to be treated for a leg injury, then to the Hamilton County Jail. Via was also taken to the jail.

Investigators have located one additional victim and believe there may be others. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact Detective David Finn at 317-595-3300.

Davis faces charges of D felony theft, unauthorized entry into a vehicle (B misdemeanor) and resisting law enforcement (A misdemeanor). Via faces a charge of D felony theft.
