Traffic Stoppages Set For U.S. 50 At Mutton Creek Today

Last updated on Wednesday, August 28, 2013

(MUTTON CREEK) - Traffic will be stopped for about 15 to 20 minutes this evening on U.S. 50 at Mutton Creek, just east of Seymour, so INDOT can allow transports to offload bridge beams. Stoppages will take place a number of times on U.S. 50 between 6 and 10 p.m.

According to INDOT, the scheduled operation is dependent upon several factors, including good weather.

Nine pre-cast concrete beams will be offloaded and hoisted into position on the north half of the Mutton Creek bridge, currently under construction. Three 80-foot beams are to be placed across the center span. Six 72-foot beams (three per span) will undergird the bridge deck at the first and third spans.

Reconstruction of the U.S. 50 structure at Mutton Creek is part of Phase I of the $21.9 million U.S. 50/North Vernon Bypass Project. The bridge is being built one-half at a time. Once the north-side section is complete, single-lane traffic will shift to allow demolition and construction of the south half of the bridge.

Force Construction is the state's contractor.
