(INDIANAPOLIS) - IMPD officers are looking for thieves who stole equipment from firefighters.
Firefighters say the items are so critical for emergency responders to do their jobs, the victim engine is out of service until they are able to get the equipment back.
Capt. Deb Estes says the main drug box was stolen, a portable suction unit and heart monitor.
Capt. Estes said equipment on the engines are checked every day. But sometime Monday, August 5, while one of their engines was out on an early morning run, someone walked off with some of it.
Capt. Estes said crews did not realize the equipment was missing until arriving at another call.
"The first location we knew that we had it; it was the second location that we realize that it may have been removed from the engine at that point," she said. "If we go on chest pain runs, heart attack, cardiac arrest, it has all of our important medications in there, people with allergic reactions. It's very important life-saving medication," she said.
Crews also discovered a Halligan bar was stolen, which is used to break in to difficult places.
Capt. Estes said the items stolen didn't have serial numbers so it's not traceable. She said the stolen items were worth about $2,000.
