Teen Bicyclist Seriously Injured After Being Hit By Vehicle

(FRANKFORT) - Two young people are in the hospital after police say a drunk driver hit them while they were riding their bikes.

It happened shortly after 8:20 p.m. in the 2500 block of SR 39 south of Frankfort in Clinton County.

Police say a Jeep Liberty driven by 39-year-old Heather McDaniel of Frankfort veered onto the shoulder of the road, hitting the bikes. The children were riding southbound on the shoulder the northbound lanes of SR 39 when they were struck.

The boy was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Frankfort by ambulance, then flown to Riley Hospital for Children-IU Health. The girl was flown from the scene to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. Both had serious injuries.

Police say the children lived close to the accident scene.

McDaniel faces charges of drunk driving, reckless driving and criminal recklessness.
