(GATESVILLE) - Indiana prospectors with “gold fever” are taking to the state’s creeks and streams in search of the telltale glitter that signals the valuable mineral.
None of them are expecting to get rich.
Henryville prospector Ed Romine says the thrill of the search guides many people as they search waterways in places like Brown County and Logansport for gold.
The Daily Journal reports the state's geology lacks the veins and lodes that define the American West. But people have been finding gold and even small diamonds in Brown and Morgan counties for more than a century.
Prospectors say they sometimes find several grams of gold while panning.
State officials remind potential prospectors to ensure they have proper permits before starting their treasure hunt.
