Police Chase Closed I-465 Tuesday

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Interstate 465 is back open on the south side of Indianapolis after a police chase Monday that began near 75th and Keystone and ended near Mann Road and the White River.

Two suspects are now in custody.

Police say an IMPD officer noticed the car make an erratic traffic move on North Keystone around 12:45 a.m. and attempted to make a traffic stop. The car fled north and got on I-465 westbound.

Police began a chase that would last 26 miles at speeds approaching 85 MPH. The suspect car drove west then south down I-465 past I-70. IMPD used stop sticks at Mann Road to cut the car's tires.

East of Mann, two man jumped out of the car and over the guardrail into a field between Mann Road and the White River.

One man, the passenger, was captured quickly. Several IMPD K-9 units located the driver with a half hour in the field. He was treated for a dog bite.

Police suspect the car was stolen, and drug paraphernalia was found inside the car.

Eastbound I-465 was closed at Mann Road to keep traffic away from the search scene, but traffic resumed shortly before 2 a.m. once both suspects were in custody.
