Man Hits Pole, Runs Into House

Last updated on Tuesday, August 6, 2013

(EDINBURGH) - One person was injured Sunday morning after he fell asleep, drove off into the oncoming lane, went off the road, hit two highway signs, struck a utility pole and then drove into a house.

Johnson County dispatch received a call of a possible impaired driver just after 9 a.m. Sunday. A sheriff's deputy started following the driver, later identified as Clifton Davis, 74, of Franklin, who was driving in the 6500 block of State Road 252 East. Once he caught up to the vehicle, he attempted to initiate a traffic stop although the vehicle kept driving. The vehicle then crashed.

When the officer went to the driver's side door, the driver put the car in reverse attempting to flee the scene. The officer ordered the man to stop the vehicle at gun point.

The home the driver crashed into was being rented. Nobody inside the home reported any injuries.

He complained of hip pain and was taken to Johnson Memorial Hospital.

A report said this is the second incident in the past month that a caller has called 911 to report Clifton's impaired driving. A report was completed and sent to the BMV to revoke his license.
