(PRINCETON) - A Pike County man was arrested early Thursday morning while trying to bail his friend out of jail, police said.
Indiana State Trooper Paul Stolz was dropping off paperwork at the Gibson County Jail around 3 a.m. Thursday morning when he noticed a man pacing back and forth and acting "suspicious" in the lobby, according to a police document.
Stolz confronted the man, 20-year-old Dalton Helsley, of Winslow, Ind., and reportedly noticed his eyes were dilated and his speech was slurred. Stolz walked outside and looked into Helsley's vehicle, where he allegedly spotted two partially burnt hand-rolled roaches and rolling papers in plain sight.
Further investigation revealed the roaches contained synthetic marijuana, as well as a baggie containing material consistent with synthetic marijuana, police said.
Helsley was arrested and incarcerated in Gibson County Jail on charges of possession of synthetic drugs with a previous conviction of marijuana, a Class D felony, and possession of paraphernalia with a previous conviction, a Class D felony. A bond was set at $750.
Helsley was at the jail to bond out a friend who was arrested earlier for possession of paraphernalia and minor consumption, according to police.
