Indianapolis And Fort Wayne See Highest Gas Price Hike In Country

Last updated on Wednesday, August 21, 2013

(UNDATED) - Indianapolis and Fort Wayne have the highest single-day gas price hikes in the country, according to an analysis of data put together by GasBuddy.com.

The Midwest has the highest price jumps of any area of the country, with Fort Wayne and Indianapolis leading that list, GasBuddy's analysis showed.

Gasbuddy.com tracks gas prices nationwide, using a network of citizen reporters to update its database of real-time prices.

The analysis took the average of the three highest single-day increases.

"So far this year, Fort Wayne has recorded the highest single-day average price hike -- 34 cents per gallon -- among its three highest daily changes," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy's senior petroleum analyst.

Indianapolis is just two cents behind Fort Wayne, recording an average price hike of 32 cents per gallon.

The price volatility also benefits Midwest consumers, at times. Gas prices in the Midwest are more likely to record higher one-day decreases than in other parts of the country, too.

It's more common for prices to vary by a penny a day in most parts of the U.S.
