Evansville Grandmother Arrested For OWI With Granddaughter In Car

(VANDERBURGH COUNTY) - An Evansville woman was arrested Wednesday night for driving while intoxicated with her young granddaughter in the car.

Tamara A. Tevault, 49, was arrested after police say she nearly struck an Indiana State Police trooper's vehicle. It happened around 11:00 pm on St. Joseph Ave. south of Mohr Road. The trooper was northbound when he saw Tevault, who was headed in the opposite direction, drive her Chevy Tahoe left of the center line, almost hitting him.

The trooper turned around and stopped Tevault, who had her two-year-old granddaughter in the vehicle.

Police say Tevault had taken Clonazepam, Hydrocodone and a morphine pill earlier. She was was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where she is currently being held without bond.

Tevault faces charges of driving while intoxicated with a passenger under 18, a Class D felony.
