Department Of Child Services Working On Better Ways To Help Children

Last updated on Friday, August 2, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The new director of Indiana’s Department of Child Services says the agency is working on ways to better help children who’ve suffered abuse.

Agency director Mary Beth Bonaventura told a legislative panel Wednesday that it must do more to reduce the trauma children experience when they're removed from an abusive home.

The Times of Munster reports Bonaventura said the agency's goal is to assess each of those children within 30 days and provide them with services they need.

Bonaventura was a Lake County juvenile court judge before she was picked by Gov. Mike Pence to take over the child welfare agency this spring.
