Pet Alligator Bites Woman

Last updated on Friday, July 5, 2013

(KOKOMO) - A woman is recovering after she was bit by a pet alligator last week.

The Kokomo Tribune reports Kelly Lowery, 25, was visiting a home in Kokomo. She was feeding an alligator that was in a cage and was bitten on the right hand.

Police originally were called to the scene around 5 a.m. Saturday for a report of a woman being hit by a car. Officers arrived on the scene and learned she was bitten by an alligator.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, a permit is required to own an alligator that is longer than 5 feet. If purchased legally and smaller in size, no permit is required.

DNR did not immediately know the size of the alligator.
