Mother And Boyfriend Face Charges After Toddler's Needless Death

Last updated on Tuesday, July 23, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Felony charges have been filed against a mother and her boyfriend in the needless death of a 15-month-old, officials said.

RTV6 reports, Nikita Dunn, 23, and her boyfriend Darrell Daniels Jr., 27, each face a felony count of neglect of a dependent after the May 4 death of Dunn's toddler.

Police were dispatched to the 600 block of South Marion Avenue near the city's southwest side back in May, where they found the toddler unresponsive.

Prosecutors announced Monday that the two would face charges in the baby's death.

The autopsy ruled that the baby died of blunt force trauma and had internal hemorrhaging.

Police say the injuries could have been treated and the child would have lived if Dunn and Daniels had sought medical care for the baby.

Another child, a 3-year-old girl, was removed from the home and placed in foster care.

Dunn and Daniels are being held on $100,000 bond each.
