Last updated on Wednesday, July 10, 2013

(CONNERSVILLE) - A man was killed and two firefighters were injured in an apartment fire in Connersville late Tuesday night.

The fire broke out about 11:15 p.m. in the 3600 block of Western Avenue, north of downtown and next to Community Christian School.

Connersville Fire Chief Troy Tipton said the fire began in one unit and heavily damaged 12 other apartments.

The man who died was in his late 30s. His identity wasn't immediately released.

One firefighter suffered smoke inhalation, and another was injured in a fall at the scene.

Both firefighters were treated and released at a local hospital.

Investigators aren't sure what sparked the fire. It was brought under control within a half hour.

Other occupants of the apartment building got out safely, some of them by jumping out of second-floor windows.
