Last updated on Tuesday, July 16, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The man accused of fatally shooting a 16-year-old boy on the Fourth of July in downtown Indianapolis will go to trial in September.

Eron Bonner's initial trial date was set for September 16th.

Bonner, 18, appeared in court Monday morning. An automatic not-guilty plea was entered on his behalf, and he was assigned a public defender.

Bonner is accused of shooting Monquize Edwards Sr. at a busy downtown intersection while the Fourth of July fireworks crowd was dispersing. It happened at the corner of Maryland and Meridian Streets.

According to Edwards' friends, Bonner and Edwards had been involved in some sort of argument prior to the fatal shooting.
