Indianapolis Attorney Wants To Plead Guilty To Fraud

Last updated on Wednesday, July 10, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - A prominent Indianapolis lawyer charged in a $4.5 million fraud case says he wants to change his plea to guilty.

The case against William F. Conour is being prosecuted on a federal wire fraud charge by a deputy U.S. attorney from a court district based in Urbana, Illinois.

Conour's public defender filed papers in federal court in Indianapolis last week seeking to change Conour's plea to guilty. A federal judge has scheduled a change of plea hearing for July 15.

WTHR news-gathering partner The Indianapolis Star reports Young recently ordered Conour jailed for violating terms of his release on bond by allegedly deceiving authorities regarding his use of assets.

Conour's trial is currently set for September. He could face up to 20 years in prison if he's convicted.
