Indianapolis Apartment Fire Displaces 43 Residents

(INDIANAPOLIS) - More than 40 people are looking for a place to stay after an apartment fire early Friday morning on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Firefighters were called to the Woodridge Apartment Complex at 7126 Rosehill Dr around 1:45 a.m.

Firefighters believe the fire started in the attic of the building, before spreading to eight of the sixteen apartment units inside the building.

A nearby resident Joseph Crockett alerted firefighters and then began kicking and banging on door to get everyone out of the complex.

Officials say 16 apartment units were damaged and 43 people were displaced by the fire.

One IFD firefighters did suffer an injure to his back, but all the residents got out uninjured.

First responders are now trying to find a place for the families affected to stay. Meantime, investigators continue to look for a cause of the flames. Damage is estimated at $500,000.
