Franklin Seeing Big Jump In Graffiti Troubles

Last updated on Wednesday, July 17, 2013

(FRANKLIN) - A central Indiana city is facing a big increase in graffiti troubles, with some homes being spray painted multiple times.

The Franklin Police Department received reports of graffiti on three homes and one vehicle over the weekend. That gives the city more than 50 graffiti reports so far this year, compared to five reports during 2011.

Police Chief Tim O'Sullivan tells the Daily Journal that part of the increase comes from having an officer documenting the graffiti found in the 24,000-person city. He says most arrests have been of teenagers painting what they believe are gang symbols.

Kurt DeKemper says he has found scrawled messages and crude drawings painted on his home three times in the past year and that he's becoming frustrated.
