Daniels Taps Former Colleagues In Purdue Hiring

Last updated on Monday, July 15, 2013

(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Purdue University President Mitch Daniels is raising some eyebrows by staffing his administration with people from his time as governor and in business.

About 30 new management or professional hires have joined Purdue's payroll since January. The Journal & Courier reports at least six are former colleagues from Daniels' days as governor and at Eli Lilly and Co.

Experts say turnover is normal when a new leader arrives. Former Purdue President France A. Cordova hired, promoted or created new roles for nine vice presidents from 2007 to 2011.

Daniels says he is focused on getting the right people in place to improve Purdue.

Professor Marcus Rogers says faculty members want to ensure that all hires are done above-board and that Indiana executive branch appointees don't become a trend.
