Board Tables Proposal To Drop IREAD3 Test

Last updated on Saturday, July 20, 2013

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The State Board of Education tabled the proposal to drop the IREAD3 test yesterday.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz presented a proposal to the board that would replace the test and do away with rules that require kids who fail to be held back.

The rules were just put into place two years ago under Ritz's predecessor as a "line in the sand" to stop the promotion of children who are unprepared for the next level.

Ritz complains the IREAD3 test is just another standardized test that doesn't help teachers understand their kids' needs.

The Board will discuss the matter again next month.
