BMV Suspending Personalized Plate Program

Last updated on Saturday, July 20, 2013

(UNDATED) - The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles announced Friday that it is temporarily suspending its personalized license plate program.

BMV Commissioner Scott Waddell says the decision is the result of a recently filed class action lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of the program.

The bureau is suspending the program pending the outcome of the lawsuit to, quote, protect Hoosier taxpayers from the considerable expense that these lawsuits bring.

Those who already have personalized license plates will be able to keep and renew their existing plates. However, as of Friday night, no new applications for personalized plates will be accepted.
