(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles says that, effective immediately, they will return the recently discovered overcharge of operator’s licenses, in the form of a credit, to every affected motorist’s account.
This means that when a driver goes to a local BMV branch, or to the bureau's website to make any type of transaction, the final charge will reflect their credit.
The BMV stated last week that it would lower operator license fees.
R. Scott Waddell is the Commissioner of the BMV. He says, "In order to make Hoosiers whole, we believe it is important to return the overcharge directly to those who have been impacted. It is the right thing to do."
13 Investigates has been reporting on the overcharges, some of which date back to 2007. A class action lawsuit was filed, claiming that the BMV charged Hoosiers from $4 to $6 more than it should have.
The BMV says an internal investigation found the overcharge was more like $3.50 per license issued.
