Animal Control Looking For Man Who Shot Raccoons

Last updated on Saturday, July 27, 2013

(FORT WAYNE) - Animal Care and Control officers are searching for two men who they say shot and severely injured two young raccoons.

WANE reports, investigators siad someone saw two men shooting into a dumpster in the 2300 block of Abbey Drive in the Canterbury Green Apartment complex on Saturday around 2:20 p.m.

When Animal Care and Control arrived, they found the young raccoons suffering from gunshot wounds. The shelter had to eventually euthanize them.

Shelter officials said they realize raccoons can be destructive, but there are better ways of avoiding them.

"Our goal here is not to defend nuisance wildlife, but to protect animals from cruel and unusual punishment which in this case that's what it was," Amy Jo Sites, Animal Care and Control Deputy Director, said.

Officials said the two men were in the their 20s.

If you have any information about the suspects in Canterbury Green, call Animal Care and Control at 260-427-1244.
