(LAFAYETTE) - A woman found dead inside a car pulled from the Wabash River in north-central Indiana has been identified as a recent Purdue University graduate from Michigan.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday that the body found Friday in the car near Lafayette is that of Alicia Smidler, a 24-year-old resident of St. Joseph, Mich., who had just graduated from Purdue.

The Journal & Courier reports police said that Smidler was traveling along a riverside road when she drove left of center, overcorrected and her vehicle ran off the right side of the road into the Wabash.

Her car was found Friday morning submerged upside down in the river near the U.S. 52 overpass.
