(JOHNSON COUNTY) - Three people were arrested Saturday night after an officer located almost 2-tons of railroad sections in the back of a pickup truck.

According to a report from the Johnson County Sheriff's Office, an Indiana Railroad employee arrived at the railroad crossing to do routine maintenance on the tracks when he noticed a red pickup truck and three individuals who appeared to be stealing 3-foot sections of the rail.

When the arriving officer asked why the three were there, one stated his pickup truck had been stolen, and that the sections of rail in the truck must have been loaded into the pickup by whoever had stolen the vehicle.

The Railroad employee informed the officer that each of the 3-foot sections weighs approximately 131 pounds each - there was a minimum of 30 rails in the bed of the truck, according to the police report.

When asked by the officer what ton the pickup was rated, the owner stated it was a 1-ton bed. The officer then determined there was almost 2-tons of steel in the truck.

At that point, the truck was buried in almost 3-feet in mud.

All three were taken into custody and transported to the Johnson County Jail.

They have been identified as Dustin Tuttle, Angel Cranford, and Anna Ritter.

Tuttle told officers that Cranford and Ritter did not play a role in the theft, and that he acted alone in that. Cranford and Ritter were preliminarily charged with trespass. Tuttle was preliminarily charged with theft and trespass
