(WEST LAFAYETTE) - Authorities have charged three men with illegally logging into their Purdue University professors’ computer accounts and changing their own grades.
Investigators say an engineering professor discovered last fall that someone else had changed his computer password and Purdue's information technology department found that grades had been changed. The Journal & Courier reports one student's grades of Ds, Fs and an incomplete were changed to A going back to 2008.
They are charged with installing devices on professors' keyboards to learn their passwords.
Prosecutors say 24-year-old Roy Sun was the ringleader and graduated with an electrical engineering degree in 2010. Sun was jailed on computer tampering and other charges. Jail records don't list an attorney.
Associate Dean of Students Jeffery Stefancic tells WLFI-TV that Sun's degree could be revoked.
