(MICHIGAN CITY) - Human remains found last month in a wooded area of northern Indiana have been identified as those of a woman who vanished last summer.

Michigan City police used DNA to determine that the bones were those of 29-year-old Candi Brown, who was last seen in August 2012.

Police are still investigating what happened to Brown and how the Michigan City woman's remains ended up in a wooded area just outside that city. Her remains were found in early May.

After Brown's disappearance, her car was found abandoned outside a Michigan City bar and grill.

Brown's cousin, James Edwards, tells WSBT-TV he doesn't understand what his cousin could have done "that she deserved to be discarded like an animal."
