Prosecutor Files Charges In Death Of 5-Year-Old Girl

Last updated on Tuesday, June 25, 2013

(MUNCIE) - A prosecutor has filed new preliminary charges against a Muncie couple after a 5-year-old girl in their care died with open sores and blisters and other injuries.

Delaware County Prosecutor Jeffrey Arnold said Monday that Marcus and Charlene Tabb now face preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent causing death. The Star Press reported Arnold hopes to file formal charges in the case this week.

The Tabbs already were being held without bond in the Delaware County Jail on preliminary charges of neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury. Jail records don't indicate whether they have an attorney. A deputy coroner has said the girl was from Haiti and that the birth mother still lives there.

Delaware County Coroner Scott Hahn has ruled the death a homicide.
