Ohio River Bridge Expected To Close For 30 To 45 Days

Last updated on Monday, June 24, 2013

(LOUISVILLE) - Officials say the Clark Memorial Bridge is scheduled to close for 30 to 45 days next spring as part of the project to build a new Ohio River bridge connecting Louisville and Jeffersonville, Ind.

The Courier-Journal reports that project officials expect to shut the Clark bridge in May 2014. Mindy Peterson, a spokeswoman for the downtown crossing, says the exact date and length of the closure could change.

The Clark is also known as the Second Street Bridge because it extends across the river from Second Street in Louisville. It carried 16,300 vehicles a day in 2011, according to the most recent estimates from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

Jeffersonville's engineering manager, Bill Dixon, says the span is being closed so workers can remove limestone from it that will be reused in building new retaining walls.
